Speed, smoke and a whole lot of horsepower. Three things Tor Arne Kvia can’t get enough of.
As one of Europe’s leading Drift Pilots, Tor is well accustomed to shredding tires in competition against some of the world’s best.
Not only is he a fantastic Driver (last year he finished the Drift Masters European Championship in fourth overall), Tor is a skilled Fabricator as well.
The young Norwegian puts a ton of effort into preparing his Drift cars. His latest S13 build required more than a month’s work removing rust caused by the salty roads in Norway – “just normal” he says!
The car is a 1993 Nissan 200sx (S13) with a high spec V8 engine under the bonnet.
“Everything” within the vehicle has been modified according to Tor, with all the major parts having been revamped. “There’s always things to fine tune and make better, but this car is now a great package with a whopping 720whp and 850wnm at only 0.66 bar of boost”.
From the beginning…
The car for this build came as a bare shell with only a rear subframe and some wheels. History says it was Kenneth Moen’s future European car, but ‘Fast Kenny’ eventually gave it up for a PS13 and it then came into Tor’s hands. After clearing the rust, all unnecessary metal was cut to within just millimetres of the rule book requirements. A custom FIA Spec rollcage with Nascar style door bars was then installed. All fabrication work on the car was done in house at TAKFAB.
A Mast Motorsport 416ci Chevrolet V8 engine lies within. Custom L92 heads feature, including Inconel valves, titan retainers, Chromoly pushrods, Jesel rocker arms and custom supercharger camshaft assembled by Stig Bakke at Motorteknikk. This creates a huge amount of torque meaning the car can run low boost settings and still produce phenomenal power.
In control is a Link Thunder ECU, the biggest ECU in our range. The Thunder operates together with an AIM MXG dash logger, Link pressure sensors for oil and fuel, Link Map Sensor and a Link Lambda sensor, to ensure the car is tuned to perfection. Tor adds: “With a big engine like our 416 and dry sump set-up, we usually run short of connectors on the other ECU’s we’ve ran. Now, we’ve got a lot of room to improve and upgrade our logging and sensors”. The tuning has been done by Link Dealer in Norway, Haaland Tuning. The final result of 720 horsepower has already proved to be smooth and usable at Round 1 of the Norweigen Drift Championship not long ago.

Tor’s big focus for this year is of course the Drift Masters European Championship, now scheduled to start in August. He is also driving in the Norwegian Drift Championship with this same car, plus hopefully some cool extra events if Covid-19 restrictions don’t prevent them from going ahead.
