Supporting Future Generations
The Manukau Institute of Technology runs a year long Certificate in Motorsport for absolute beginners, a handful of these students are given the shell of a Honda car and over the course of the year learn all the necessary skills to transform it into a fully kitted out, race ready Honda Civic.
Link Engine Management and Possum Bourne Motorsport are proud supporters of the future of motor racing and engine tuning. Both companies have teamed up to provide the technology and training support to these newcomers to the industry. Julius Bloem, General Manager of Possum Bourne Motorsport says that it is “important to invest in the future of the industry and by offering up our dyno and expertise the students get a great understanding of EFI and basic tuning concepts.”
Their current Honda project is powered by a stock B16A with only headers and intake. It made a maximum of 100HP at the wheels on the factory ECU, once tuned using a Link ECU we managed to get a massive 40% power increase to 140HP at the wheels. With Possum Bourne Motorsport’s guidance and the LinkECU help functions – it was completely installed and configured by the MIT students.

When Possum Bourne Motorsport came to us with this well-thought out idea, we immediately asked what we could do to help. The hands on training the students will receive is an excellent pathway into the motorsport industry and for us to be involved was a no brainer really.”
After the course is finished a lot of these students make it through to racecar and performance shops for employment, with Possum Bourne Motorsport even taking on apprentices.
