Link saves the NZ National Off Road Champion!

At the beginning of the Endurance Race

It began with a rush to get the car to the start line and ended with circulating just trying to save the engine. Link and their fantastic electronic box helped push the car over the finish line all season. It’s the fantastic reliability of the engine/ECU package that has led to the success of the RedMist Racing Jimco and the ability for Daniel Powell to snatch the large NZ National Off Road Racing Championship trophy from those jealously guarding it up north. Now it’s his turn to jealously guard it in Christchurch.

So how did Link save the National Championship Race?

Powell goes looking for big air519hp of twin turbo grunt throws out a fair bit of heat. The professional American built racing aluminium radiator just barely robs the engine of sufficient heat to keep the coolant from boiling. So what happens if you block off most of the radiator and ram mud through both intercoolers to the point where the fans stall? If you are running a modern Link ECU, nothing. Nothing might sound boring, but when you are talking of turning a very expensive race motor into a pile of melted twisted metal, nothing is brilliant!

Powell racing uphillThe RedMist racing team completed this magical task by doing two things within a 5 minute break in racing. We reassigned two of the six dash LED’s to enable when an over temp situation was reached, one 5 degrees hotter than the other. This gave Daniel the ability to run the car up to the very limit of temperature. Secondly we set the RPM limit to reduce on any over temperature issues. There were moments when we were forced to ignore the two LED’s to save position, however the RPM limiter saw the V6 scream home with a credible second overall and giving Daniel enough points to win the New Zealand National Off Road Championship.
