Sean Falconer takes out Round 3
Pukekohe produced sunshine and clear skies on Sunday, 16 July 2006, for the third round of the D1NZ Championship Series. With ideal conditions Sean Falconer was confident from the first practice run.
After mechanical faults held him back in the first two rounds of the series Sean and his team worked hard to get his car to be reliable. This allowed him to concentrate on his driving when it came to last Sunday.
With a field of 40 competitors Sean quickly stood out from the rest and qualified with ease into the top 16. This is when the battles began. In Falconers first battle he was up against Drift Corp prospect Emile aka Happy Meal. Sean underestimated the first run and let Emile come close to a win. But on the second run Sean stepped up the pace and took the win.
This took Sean through to the top 8 where he came up against the 2005 champion, Adam Richards.
Sean applied pressure in his chase run causing Adam to spin and he progressed again to the next battle. Sean came up against Gaz Whitaker who was leading the points table at this stage. Pushing Gaz hard, Sean won again as his opponent spun under pressure.
The final battle between Falconer and 'Fanga Dan' was intense and competition tight. But Sean was crowd favourite due to his aggressive style. He did not disappoint. Both cars were pushed to their limits and speeds were higher than ever causing a double spin in their first run. This lead to a rerun where Fanga spun again under pressure giving the advantage to Sean. In the final run Sean's angle and speed were superior giving him the overall win for the day.
Sean would like to thank all his sponsors for making it all possible. Sean's car is now reliable and at a level to be competitive for the D1NZ series.
