Roestenburg for Rallysprint Whangarei in WRX H6
Brookby racer Marty Roestenburg has confirmed his entry in the Paparoa based 5.2km gravel Rallysprint to be held on the 2nd July and will be up against the fastest drivers in New Zealand. Roestenburg and codriver Greg Harnett of Clevedon will be competing against the best NZRC drivers and teams from throughout the country, including current champion Richard Mason and Subaru New Zealand driver Chris West. Rallysprint Whangarei will count as Leg 2 of the 3rd Round of the Parker Enzed New Zealand Rally Championship with Leg 1 being Rally Whangarei on Saturday, July 1.
“I commend the organisers for their innovative solution to providing a more spectator and media friendly Event. Rallying is my favourite motorsport but they are not easy to follow because of the long distances covered and generally they are out in the wop wops. I think the focused, cut-throat elimination format of a Rallysprint will be exciting for the competitors and spectators as well as provide corporate hospitality opportunities similar to the Ashley Forest Sprint and Race to the Sky” Marty said. “Our sponsors Radio Hauraki, Nichibo, BNT and Dunlop are keen to support initiatives that make motorsport more entertaining - perhaps this will be the way forward into the future.”
Roestenburg has entered the 600 horse powered Subaru WRX H6 in which he sped to 3rd overall and 1st in class at Easters annual Race to the Sky in Cardrona Valley. Arch rival and neighbour Andrew Hawkswood has entered his hot rod Evo 6 and Steve Murphy’s thundering V8 Cordia will provide stiff competition and a great spectacle. Each of the 60+ competitors will get 4 runs over the course and the fastest 8 in each class will run off for the fastest 4, then 2 and a final shootout to determine the winner.
“If the road is tight and twisty it will not suit our car – but it sure will look and sound fantastic!” Marty grins.
Spectator points will be provided by the organisers, both beside the course and at the Paparoa based service park where the crews and cars will be tuned and prepared between each run. Further info and results on www.rallynz.org.nz
